The guys had just this day to fish, so we decided on the reefs about six miles from shore. Conditions got rougher as the morning progressed but we managed to bring home ten keeper mangrove snapper and a 14 inch sheepshead. November is one of the best months to target snook at Sebastian Inlet. In addition, large flounder and oversized redfish have begun to show up on the Port Canaveral buoy line and in the inlets of Ponce De Leon and Sebastian, and the flounder numbers will increase as the flounder begin their seaward migration out of the lagoon. Also, let's not forget the influx of Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and black tip sh...

| Posted: August 20, 2008 by Captain John Rivers - Pensacola, FL http://www.megabiteinshore.com | | Well, the summer season is coming to an end, and the kids have headed back to school. So let’s talk about what has happened in the panhandle the last few weeks and what’s in store for the end of August and into September.
The past few weeks, fishing has been pretty good for big Spanish, skipjacks and bluefish in the ICW and in the pass. The speckled trout bite has also been picking up the past few days in the ICW in depths of 3 – 7 ft, and should continue to pick up throughout September. Durin...
| Posted: August 18, 2008 by Captain Butch Rickey - Fort Myers, FL http://www.barhoppr.com | | After having a benign growth removed from my back a couple of weeks ago, I finally got back to work last Sunday. The rest of this month is quite busy with trips, which is unusual for August. But, as I sit here beginning this report, I wonder what this coming week will bring, as southwest Florida sits smack dab in the center of the cone of uncertainty of what will likely be hurricane Fay.
This week was a classic lesson in how much tides affect the fishing. We went from really poor tides b...
| Posted: August 15, 2008 by Captain Michael Rutenberg - Myrtle Beach, SC http://www.CoastalEcoCharters.com | | Inshore fishing has been very good lately. Lots of Flounder on the incoming tide around creek mouths. I like areas that show lots of surface current movement. This oxygenates the water, which is key when water temps are in the mid 80's. Live mullet on small egg weight is my standard rig for flounder. try to use the lightest weight possible to minimize snags. A light weight will not be a noticeable to the flounder and they tend to mouth the hook quicker.

| Posted: August 15, 2008 by Captain Dave Hanson - Bonita Beach, FL http://www.fishbustercharters.com | | The first part of the week brought lots of rain, and not just the familiar afternoon thunderstorms; it rained early mornings, into late evenings. It was mid-week before I got out fishing. Wednesday, 8/13, I fished Estero Bay with Robert & Roberta Dulberg and their children, Daniel, ten, and Rebecca, six. Rebecca was a little leery of boats in general, but quickly adapted and had a great time--especially when she got to see a porpoise and a manatee close-up.
The group caught two keeper mangro...

INSHORE:
It's great to live and fish along the Treasure Coast! Fishing was a little on the slow side this week, but we had fun out there on the water anyway. Early mornings continue to hold the best opportunities for fishing. The weather has been fantastic if you get out and back before the afternoon storms roll into the area. Continued summer patterns will give you the opportunity to have some great fishing weather.

It sure is for me, they say time flies when you’re having fun. I guess I’m having a fun summer, fishing that is. Hey in other good news those gas prices have come down a little bit, they just need to keep coming down! Let’s talk some good fishing!
The last couple of weeks the fishing has been pretty good just off the beach. The Spanish Mackerel have been biting very good most days and the fish are a really nice grade. Some fish over six...

I want to take a minute to thank my entire list of guests that booked me so far this season. I hope to see each and every one of you again next year. I’d also like to recognize all the people around me that sacrifice during the summer while I’m doing what I love to do. This season has been just awesome and I'm really looking forward to my favorite time of the fishing season that’s just around the corner...

We enjoyed fishing schools of redfish once again this week. It's a sight in itself to see anywhere from fifty to one-hundred redfish out in front of the boat. We had some great fun and won a few battles fishing the flats of the Treasure Coast! It might be hot and muggy, but it's a great time of year to fish the Indian River.
While fishing with Steve Rial and his buddy, we ran into Charlie Norburn and his wife on the flats. Both boats ended up fishing a nice s...

Sounds funny but yes I do intentionally fish for them and have places where I go to cath'em. Went to my first spot and nothing. 2nd spot, same thing. Third spot, yes the third spot, this could be it. Nope, my lady fish hole turned into a trout party. Good thing is they're decent sized. Went to Matlacha to see whats going on. Found some ladies, blues, jacks and caught them. I've been so busy taking people fishing this summer.
Well lets get to it!
The passes have been loaded with snapper and grouper.
The beaches have good snook and redfish action.
The best bait I have found is medium pinfish.

The plan for the day was as usual-Redfish. Low tide in the a.m.=tails. Got to the flat at the right time and things were just as on Saturday. Fish all over pushing wakes and tailing. Rob takes to the polling platform and offers to put me on some fish, which was a nice change beings I don't get too many chances to actually have someone pole me around. Ro...

I have an excuse though. The last few months have been a blur and my sunburnt, cut up hands haven't responded well to a keyboard. There you have it. Anyways, summertime is in full effect in Islamorada and lobster mini-season is over, thank god. Despite the somewhat slow period for guides business-wise, summertime is probably the best time in the Keys to fish! Bonefish, permit, tarpon, redfish and snook a...
| Posted: August 02, 2008 by Captain Kenny Mason - Lehigh Acres, FL http://trinitycharters.com | | Got on the water today with my friend Tim for some red action. With the tide going to be low in the morning it was the perfect time to see how shallow his boat would float. I was amazed at what it did considering its a Ranger 18-3 ghost. Its not the same as my Tr7 nor polls as good or shallow, but it still got it done good enough to get us in casting range. The flat was loaded with fish in the grass, in the potholes and in the trough close to shore. We ended up getting 3 smaller Reds to the boa... | |
| Posted: August 01, 2008 by Captain Dave Hanson - Bonita Beach, FL http://www.fishbustercharters.com | | After a little time away in the relatively cool N.C. mountains, I resumed fishing this Saturday, 7/26. I fished 14 to 17 miles west of New Pass with Marty Kimball and his three young daughters, Haley, Cheyeynne and Michaela. The girls had a lot of fun using live shrimp to catch and release a bunch of big ladyfish to 30 inches. We also caught a keeper lane snapper and released a few mutton snapper that were just short of keeper size, red grouper to 19 inches, gag grouper shorts, grunts and porgie... | |

Continued hot and muggy weather around the Treasure Coast this week has bought thunderstorms and rain around the area most afternoons. Fishing early or late in the day will give you the best opportunities out on the river. It's hot out there, so drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Some days I am truly amazed at the fantastic area we have to fish here on the Treasure Coast. Over the past twenty-six years that I have lived and fished along the Indian River, I am thankful for the abundant resources that we are so fortunate to enjoy. My trip was on Friday, with an old friend Ed Mahoney, of Boca Raton, Florida. I've known Ed since 2001, and back in 2002, took him on what he again told me was the best fishing trip of his life. He's a great guy, and I hadn't seen him in a while. So, I was looking forward to this trip. It would be my first time meeting his wife, D...

Summertime on the Indian River.....It's a wonderful time of year. Lots of afternoon thunderstorms have brought much needed rain to the area this year. You have to plan your trips carefully to get out and beat the odds of getting wet. The water has remained remarkably clear in spite of all the wet weather out there. Fishing picked up the latter part of the week and we enjoyed catching a variety of fish around the river.

We can’t change the gas prices by snapping our fingers, so let’s talk fishing and worry about the gas after the fishing trip!
The summer trend of local fishing is really starting to show. One of my favorites has rally started to show this last week; the always fun Tarpon! I have only Tarpon fished once; last week. We saw a few fish an...
